Mae Kha Jan in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand, is a bustling hub for smallholder coffee producers. In the high mountains, these farmers meticulously process their coffee on-site, utilizing methods like depulping, 12-24 hours of wet fermentation, and thorough washing, followed by sun-drying on raised bamboo beds or patios for 15–20 days.

With an average age of 25-35, Chiang Rai's coffee farmers find the industry accessible and profitable, thanks to successful initiatives dating back to the 1970s. Varieties like Catuai, Typica, and the local Chiang Mai hybrid thrive in this region.

Post-farm processing, the coffee parchment heads to the advanced Beanspire mill in Mae Kha Jan, co-founded by Fuadi Pitswan and Jane Kittiratanapaiboon. A leader in Thailand's coffee industry, Beanspire prioritizes quality, employing cutting-edge equipment for destoning, hulling, and gravity table density sorting. Meticulous sorting ensures top-notch quality and uniformity. The coffee is carefully packed in triple-layer bags for shipment, incorporating cotton, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), and GrainPro layers for extended quality preservation.

Beyond cultivation, Thailand boasts a vibrant café and roasting scene. Producers, skilled in coffee preparation, are enthusiastic about global recognition. This success ensures a sustainable future for farmers, supported by community lots like those in Mae Kha Jan and Chiang Rai.
