Nestled in the captivating landscapes of San Juan Intibucá, COMICOVEL is a whimsical cooperative born from the magic of the Catholic Relief Services' Blue Harvest Project. Under the leadership of Geovanny Martinez and consultant Carlos Guevara, this charming group of small-scale coffee producers thrives on organic farming and environmental harmony.
With the aid of Blue Harvest, 1400 producers transformed their farms into vibrant ecosystems. Established in 2016, COMICOVEL started exporting certified Organic coffee in 2018, empowering its members to continue their organic farming journey while preserving freshwater sources.
Situated in the mystical Opalaca mountain ranges, the cooperative's focus on tree planting and water management adds a touch of whimsy to the landscape. Coffee processing, featuring wooden hoppers and concrete tanks for fermentation, is followed by gentle washing. Most farmers lovingly dry their coffee on concrete patios or in greenhouses for 14-20 days. COMICOVEL has a history of offering friendly technical assistance, nurturing productivity and community spirit in this enchanting journey.
